Maybe I'm a bit dense but here's something that blows me away:
How did messaging apps that use your phone number as an id become popular? We have sms already and we have been able to send pictures for ages. I think that pretty much anything those things support is also supported by the default stuff you find on a phone without even needing a smartphone, dumb phones I used to have already could send pictures.
I get it if they offer some kind of privacy protection or if they don't use your phone number in the first place but in short, what the fuck is the point of whatsapp and similar aside for the fact that other people use it and are too stupid to use sms instead for some reason?
