"Call me crazy, but I think Biden Administration is in such a dire position right now with a trifecta of:
1 - failing Ukraine counter-offensive and prospect of a never ending protracted conflict that will suck up billions in the hundreds and ammunition and hardware indefinitely
2- cost of debt out of control
3- disinflation well engaged but not anchored just as the election year might be the recession year.
While what they need is to pull a line under Ukraine commitment ahead of election, ensure no recession and if one were to happen, ensure Fed cuts down to zero, and finally have debt servicing costs back down to gain fiscal manœuvre.
Call me crazy, but what they need is a fully fledged new COVID variant full lockdown protocol that would crush Putin’s oil revenues and hence weaken him on the battlefield, have FFR back to zero and scare everyone into voting them back into office while deflecting the recession responsibility on the virus.
