I have no idea if this is a spicy take, but I think the US government should have no interest in the ancestry of US citizens. The fact that they are citizens is enough.
If they could all just be treated by their fellows as citizens that would be an improvement as well.
(I think it's also possible to police against bigotry without buying into it to the extent that you classify people by the same categories.)
