I just don't think conscription will ever happen. Conscription requires coercion and enforcement on a way that simply isn't possible in 2024 because the United States as a policy has created a massive legibility problem where it has intentional blind spots and has no idea what is actually going on internally. You cannot have millions of aliens living in these blind spots and operating with the support of NGOs and fake documentation while trying to enforce conscription, because anyone who wants to dodge the draft will simply go into these black boxes and fall off the grid. This was already happening when the draft was abolished with a much more serious country and institutions operating at a far greater level they are now.
