the tl;dr version: they're a cybersecurity provider, their software runs at the driver/kernel level on computers to monitor for things like malware and ransomware. Big companies deploy it across their whole fleet of computers and servers. They pushed an update which caused large numbers of those computers to crash and bluescreen.
I'm guessing Japanese companies don't use Crowdstrike very much, but our parent company in the US does, so we've been hit here.
