"there is some discussion as to whether these notes should be public to determine who is banned and who is doing the banning"

Yes I think so in regards to transparency yes. Ppl will respect that honestly, it will make you look good as a result. You will look trustworthy and they is what ppl respect and value.

"Personally as a relay operator, I feel that I am under no obligation to store anyone's notes for free and can delete and block users for any reason I see fit and don't owe anyone an explanation for that - banned users should just find another relay to relay their notes."

If that is how you feel, then you need/should be honest about that and make it abundantly clear so that people are least aware of what their dealing with.

Like you said, you don't have to do that. And you're not getting paid for this. This isn't your career or your job. So I get it.You are under no obligation.

But think about any service that you use, how do you feel, if the fine print wasn't there at all? And they kept it hidden away from you. They're legally protected to do whatever they want to you. And your information, and there's nothing you can do about it legally. Period but they don't even tell you that to begin with?

That would be pretty shitty, right? And I don't think you'd recommend a service like that to people that you actually care about.

I'm not your mom, your dad or God. You can literally do whatever you want. I'm just saying whatever it is that you choose to do. At least be fucking upfront and honest about it. Unpolygenically too. People deserve to know the truth and a lot of online services, our shitty with being sneaky and trying to get information and stuff. It's just crap.
