People saying "your grandparents had victory gardens and ration vouchers, you can give more" have no clue how little leverage people have left, and how close the average family is to poverty right now.
The Carthaginian invasion that was repelled by the Roman Republic of 203BC would have crushed the Roman Empire of 203AD. It's a different time, and we are literally (demographically, culturally, religiously) a different people than we were 80 years ago.
Nobody knows how to garden anyways.
