My friends and I have come to similar conclusions, they're just slightly more on the "it's still salvageable" side where I'm on the "we are fucked" side. As shit gets worse and worse they're slowly coming along and we all help each other out as best we can- one guy does mechanic shit so I help him with drywall, ect. Honestly I don't know what else you "can do" besides hold your family and friends tight, try to be as self-sufficient and isolated as realistically possible, and hope for the best.
