For recent iPhones, it would seem app developers use the easiest method of accessing the camera without handling focus and lens switching in their UIs. If the subject you’re shooting is small (QR codes, ID cards, etc), one really has to move the camera back resulting in an often too small and/or inadequately detailed photo. Even Apple’s integrated QR scanner seems to suffer with this issue. I mentioned this as signing up to
strike (npub1ex7…vyt9) requires KYC ID card verification, and I had this issue with focus. (No option to switch lenses to macro/closeup).
