Hitting kids doesn't teach them to behave; it just teaches them that authority will descend from above to inflict pain seemingly at random, resulting in either apathy (everything I do results in violence so why care) or withdrawal (so much thst I do results in violence, I better not do anything if I can help it). Both are just non-functional.
