Only their personal interpreters were present during this private conversation, and for many years, the content of their discussion was shrouded in secrecy, hidden from both the American and Russian public.

However, in a 2009 interview with Charlie Rose and Ronald Reagan's Secretary of State George Shultz, Gorbachev disclosed a surprising revelation. He shared that during their walk, Reagan had asked him straightforwardly if they could put aside their differences in the event of an alien invasion threatening the world.
