I've been re-reading _Love and Rockets_ and I'm surprised at what a sympathetic character Vivian Solis is when she's first introduced. Vivian is a beautiful, loud, self-centered, annoying, impatient person. She has no idea why people do the things they do. Their reactions are a mystery to her, and this frustrates and bewilders her, but she's become numb to it much of the time. Sometimes it's too much, and she seems to want to grab people, shake them, and shout "Explain it to me!"
