Original sold a tough, original mix and became a cult classic. Dumbed down the ideas from the book, but sold what it had left in a strong way. Hard to describe the plot in one sentence or two.
2049 rides its coat tails and dumbs things down further. Doesn't do much interesting. You can describe the plot in one or two sentences. Only manages to not totally screw it up and sell weeb wet dream fantasy. It has all depth of a retrowave meme. Looks cool; means nothing.
I'm more inclined to say BR was overrated and 2049 was weak or BR was great and 2049 was okay.
