There's one thing that excites me more than anything with this project, and that's when people start saving in #Bitcoin, as a way to change their own future.
Sizwe is the owner of the GlobalBTCFest shack that we painted in January. Like all of the other painted-shack owners he receives R60 (~$3.50) in sats/week.
This is one way to get small amounts of #Bitcoin into the hands of the community without just handing it out randomly, but paying it in exchange for something. To encourage the circular economy.
Most spend their sats at the township shops we onboarded. But not Sizwe.
Sizwe saved all his sats. And over the course of 33 weeks (with weekly payments of 10k - 12k sats) he's saved over 350k sats, ~ $100 in Bitcoin, which LuthandoSABTC🇿🇦 (npub10vu…8djm) moved into a self-custody wallet for him his week.
