Spent quite a while trying to get an old moving-dot LED display (1998 vintage) working on serial port. It's not a n00ga, it's not a Pro-Light, it's basically a no-brand 6809-based thing with 6264 RAM which doesn't obey any protocol I've managed to find online.
There's a 27128 EPROM in there which I'm tempted to disassemble but I can't even find a photo of the remote I have for it online, so completely at a loss as to what it actually *is*.
