Moving is a pain in the arse, but you could look in rural areas in other states for affordable property and find something with a liveable house/mobile home and acreage. You'd probably have to drive a half hour each way for work, but it's better than what's going on now. As far as working for yourself, scout out a community and figure out what service is lacking and be that guy.
