US employers hired more workers in December - Report

US employers hired more workers than expected in December 2023, according to an employment report from the Labor Department. The US employment report had previously stated that the economy added 71,000 fewer jobs in October and November than previously reported. Unemployment was 3.7% last month due to 676,000 people leaving the labor force. Despite this, the report indicated that the economy avoided a recession last year and is expected to continue growing through 2024. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 216,000 jobs in December.
