Being a father has been the greatest joy I’ve ever had in life.
I just took my 31 y.o. Son to the Detroit airport today. He and his GF went back to Austin and I flew to Boston, to drive up here to porcfest, in New Hampshire.
For me, it never gets easier saying goodbye to him. I wish he lived a lot closer to his mother and I.
It’s really quite sad, each and every time we part for me (and I’m not very soft person at all - but this gets me every time)
But my18 years with him, was the highlife of my life. Hands down.
I have an older step daughter with his mother as well.
We should have had more children (or adopted). Biggest regret of my life. Bar none.
He and his GF don’t seem too interested in having children (I think there is quite a bit of Nihilism in the 30ish y.o. Crowd - and I kind of don’t blame them after what they’ve been through with these last 4 yrs of Bullshit)
BUT - I tell him, if u don’t want to have children - go save one…
or even more, by adopting.
He says - he needs to get his own life together first.
I disagree.
They both make good money, and just made the intelligent move to leave California for Texas and save a boat load of money per annum. I say - u r never ready. Never really.
When he was 3 days old - I was driving to a town 90 mins away to build a pizzeria. I already had a couple, but now I had 4 mouths to feed. And I was scared shitless…
But I had so wanted a child.
Best thing that ever happened to me. Best thing ever.
I hope you make the choice to have it save a child or 3.
It’s the most fulfilling, happiest, saddest, best, warmest, hardest thing you may ever do. And all the pain - and there will probably be some pain - is all worth it.
I wish you well.
