The reason we got faggot marriage is that intense opposition to it collapsed many years before SCOTUS imposed it by decree. That's how these things work, it's not about whether 51% of voters would support it (they wouldn't), it's about whether 1% of men would REALLY oppose it.
Same thing has happened with abortion in the US. It's not popular, but the large scale opposition sufficient to spawn multiple insurgent groups has evaporated with the collapse of Christianity.
