I have found that approaching cooking everything from scratch and sourcing ingredients in bulk is the fastest wat to get your food budget down., no matter what your dietary preference.

I get premium, grassfed beef for $3.50 a pound average by buying the whole cow from a local farmer, for example, because I have a chest freezer. Even with multiple person events, that cow lasts about a year (we are mostly meat eaters).

Second thought is about growing: if you are willing to dedicate 2 SF to baby greens and get some lights, that is a great way to keep fresh lettuce cost down and you can set up a system that requires once a week time investment of about 15 minutes.

Tgird thought: when you move to more expensive, nutrient dense foods and also listen to your body, you start eating less naturally.
