Back in 2009, I was in a big circus show in which a pair of very talented aerialists did a a lyra act. These artists were women and also lovers. At the end of their act, they had a chaste but definitely intimate kiss, to cap things off.
The show was an all-ages event, and I didn't find out until later that the kiss had generated controversy for the production company and thus friction between it and the artists.
Two athletes, both women, briefly kissing, aloft, surrounded by applause and music, buoyed by the holy effervescence of the stage. A "controversy." In the year of our loud 2009.
