you know, it's interesting:

if there's one thing we've learned - and which has been publicly restated recently - it's that there is a vast grassroots out there of mid-tier accounts that serve a valuable role in the information ecosystem, forming a sort of "composite resonator" that represents a force capable of shaping narratives in near-real time

(think 4chan, Gab, Fediverse, forums of all kinds, and so forth)

these informational ratlines have been identified - again, recently - as a real problem for those who wish to direct that narrative-creating and -eroding power to their own ends, to the extent that they create and fund entire thinktanks and companies to attempt to hijack, subvert, and counter its efforts

(see recent news articles about Israeli "ex-" intelligence companies in this space, US government efforts, departments of Big Social Media, etc.)

one of the obvious ways one might attempt to influence and dampen the capabilties of this network: convince the people in it that those small- and mid-tier repeater accounts are of no use and have no effect

interesting, isn't it?

it really does make you think
