Bruce Lee was a big proponent of the idea of positive affirmations. He believed that the constant verbal reinforcement of desired psychological objectives and outcomes was a great way to achieve mental fitness and well-being.

However, there is a higher and more powerful type of affirmation that is even more optimising in regards to self-esteem and self-actualisation… these I call
“metaffirmations”. “Metaffirmations” are affirmations that focus on a higher level than the usual “I” type affirmation where people say things like “I am happy and relaxed”, or “I am becoming more and more confident”. Instead the focus is a bigger and higher change.

In the spirit of the dragon then, here are some “metaffirmations”, drawn from Bruce’s teachings, that you can use every day…

• Use no way as way.
• Have no limitation as limitation.
• Empty your mind.
• Be water.
• Research your own experience.
• Absorb what is useful.

“Metaffirmations” are effective as tools because they are focused on you and your life, not on the self and the ego… they are about experiencing life more fully and holistically and changing your self, without changing yourself!
