If that's the case, there's little to be done. No idea what it's called in your part of the world but you can buy a fluoride gel (should be around 1,25% flouride, elmex is selling the stuff over here) and rub it on those visible roots like 2.3 times a week. It should help.
If it's an actual cavity or a bad filling it wouldn't do shit though the issue there is much the same, no protective enamel. Got xrays done for this?
