Black Friday Turns Apocalyptic for China's Cross-Border Merchants, With No Orders From the U.S.
According to a survey by AMZ123, a comprehensive platform for Chinese cross-border e-commerce businesses, as of November 26, over 40% of the 560 surveyed sellers were disappointed with Black Friday sales, failing even to clear their inventory. 34% of sellers did not participate in the Black Friday event, and only 22% experienced a surge in orders, however 11% of them reported poor profit performance.
A clothing merchant on Amazon, working under the pseudonym Chen Hai, has annual sales exceeding 10 million US dollars. He reported a "halving" of sales during Black Friday. Assistant General Manager and Head of Cross-Border Trade, Ding Lingchao, who works at Zhejiang Evolunion Cross-Border Trade Service told Yicai that several sellers in home goods, small appliances, and daily necessities described this Black Friday as Amazon's worst. It had low orders and sales but high advertising costs.
