I (Sweden) had a similar regiment in the 70s and early 80s. Not in this "performance spectacle" format (clearly propaganda), but we had the demands;
>20 pushups, 3km run under 12mins, 8 meter rope climbing, balance, ...
And if you didn't manage, you were put to practice until you did. My nemesis was long distance running...
Haven't thought much about it until now.
