It sure seems like this and the other crack down on exchanges is all part of the big picture.
First they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then they assimilate you. We are likely in the phase of assimilation. With the open block chain plus kyc/aml (compliant exchanges and on/off ramps) they would have the control they want. Even though in reality only a small percentage of BTC transactions are nefarious. That's a narrative that is ingrained in politicians minds (along with most mainstream). They will easily pass laws that prohibit non kyc Bitcoin.
