That's because yuffie is the fine gentleman's choice.

But in all seriousness their appeal is something that goes under the radar because a lot of people don't really comment on their characters.

Aerith:
She's a "holy/mystic" character placed into an environment of degeneracy. We expect characters like her to be innocent and meek but in reality she's a lot more open to putting herself in danger than she should be. But she is weak physically, at least in how the story presents her. It makes her death and sacrifice a lot more hard hitting.

Consider for what purpose Aerith has for saving the planet. Her parents were killed by the company she worked for, her boyfriend died because of that company, that company constantly hunts her down to get her to fuck wild monsters, she gets harassed in the streets if midgar, she gets beaten up by Cloud. There's a point in FF7 where there's a question if the planet would even save humans. The only reason there even is possible sequels of FF7 is because of Aerith. It's why her death scene is well known and such a meme.

Tifa:
She's the token "hot girl" of the party that doesn't act like it. We all understand why she's attractive and the story sets her up as so. She's the childhood friend of the "hero" of the story. In reality she's desperate to keep Cloud not because she likes him but because everyone she knew died or is far away or distant. This results in her lying to Cloud over his flashback at Kalm. Which ends up in disaster when "the truth" is finally revealed at the northern crater.

Obviously she has hot girl appeal. But story wise I would say her appeal is how down to earth she really is. A lot of people would sympathize with losing everyone you know later in life and be desperate to keep the people you did know. She also sacrifices a lot of take care of Cloud even during his mental fits and later catatonic state. Like Aerith I'd consider her a heroic character.

Simply put I don't know of many other RPG characters like Aerith and Tifa. That's why their designs seem to hold appeal close to 30 years after the release of FF7. :back_from_gab:
