I'm just going to say this about traditional practices around death: if you are in a culture where your tikanga/minhag/customs are real and in use, at least everyone knows what to do and does them even if grumblingly and then everyone agrees they were done (even if unsatisfactorily). The broad outlines are there. Aware tradition doesn't meet everyone's needs but this one it does meet.
