Tonight's Republican debate will not significantly change the dynamic in the race. The candidates uniformly came across as small and hawkish. As cliche as it sounds, Trump did likely benefit from sitting this one out.
The only thing I enjoyed about tonight's debate was that some of the fault lines within the Republican Party were on display, especially vis-à-vis Ukraine. In the long run, it's probably a strategic mistake for the Democratic Party to skip these debates.
