Letting the "victim" of speech decide if the speech was with harmful intent is a thought crime. It is an outsider deciding the internal mental state of someone when they said something.

I don't know shit about the specific situation as I've never read or watched any harry potter and I'm not in the trans community. I just dislike seeing so many otherwise reasonable people calling for acts of violence against people because someones feelings were hurt by some words. Far too many people today are ready to paint anyone with slightly different opinions as a cartoon villain.

I am autistic in a world where many sling that word as a casual insult like gay in the early 2000s, so it isn't lost on me than those words can hurt. Some mean to hurt and some are just oblivious. I always assume they are oblivious until they tell or show me explicitly that they meant harm. If they do, time to exercise my right of free association.
