John Cassian, a 4th-century monk, is celebrated for bringing Eastern monastic wisdom to the West. He lived as a hermit, and traveled to monasteries in Egypt and Palestine before founding monasteries in Gaul (modern France). He's renowned for his writings, especially the *Institutes* and *Conferences*, which shaped Western monasticism. The story goes that while praying, he encountered the demons of lust and fought them in his mind for a long time. He later used this experience to teach his monks how to deal with temptations.
Venerable John, pray to God for us and intercede on our behalf!
