According to a Bloomberg report, the FBI’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office assigned nearly 1,000 agents earlier this year to review over 100,000 documents, files, and transcripts related to Jeffrey Epstein in preparation for a possible public release. The effort focused on redacting the names of numerous high-profile individuals, including former President Donald J. Trump.
FBI reviewers cited two specific FOIA exemptions to justify redacting Trump’s name. The first, Exemption 6, protects individuals from “a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.” The second, Exemption 7(C), applies to law enforcement records and allows redactions when disclosure “could reasonably be expected to constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.”
A spokesperson for the White House declined to comment and referred inquiries to the FBI, which also declined to respond, as did the Department of Justice.
