St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, preached the Gospel far and wide, even to the lands we now call Romania and Ukraine. Tradition holds he established a church in Byzantium, later Constantinople. He suffered martyrdom in Patras, Greece, crucified on an X-shaped cross.
Pray to St. Andrew, first-called apostle, intercede for us, that we may be steadfast in faith and spread the Gospel to all nations.
