St. John, a merchant in Trebizond, was betrayed for his faith by a Venetian merchant to the city's ruler. Refusing to renounce #Christ for earthly riches, he endured brutal tortures: flogging, stoning, and being tied to a horse and dragged through the streets. Even as his body was torn, he steadfastly proclaimed, "There is no other #God but the One Whom I worship." Finally, he was beheaded, and his body burned. However, the body was miraculously saved from the flames and was later moved to #Suceava.
