Venerable Dimitrie the New of Basarabi was a simple shepherd, a man of profound piety. One day, while tending his flock near a river, he was brutally murdered by robbers. His body was thrown into the water. After many years, his incorrupt relics were discovered. A child playing by the river saw a light emanating from the water, revealing the saint's remains. The local people, recognizing the divine sign, recovered the relics and built a church in his honor.
