I say a demon was in the body of Father Damien Karras in Exorcist III because the Gemini Killer was a human who got executed for his crimes and was a demonic wanna-be. Satan lets him possess the body of Damien Karras to test his metal. To see if he has what it takes to be a soldier in Satan's army.
The similarities I see between The Exorcist III and Nefarious are slight but there's still enough of a connection that I feel that the makers of Nefarious took inspiration from Exorcist III.
The prisoner with a demon inside of them. The line 'I am legion because we are many" is used in both films. Watch both of them this weekend and tell me I'm not on to something. I love horror and love seeing new film makers using older concepts in their newer films.
