24 hours, 7 big relays, 18,186 notes from 3,361 accounts:
🧑 ~1,900 likely humans (57% of accounts)
🌉 832 fediverse bridges (25%)
🤖 542 self-declared bots, feeds and agents (16%)
🔁 88 more bots by behaviour: 48+ notes a day, repeating content, link spam (3%)
The humans wrote only 35% of the notes. The median human posted once that day, and the machines fill the rest of the feed.
So when Nostr feels like it's mostly bots: by volume, it is. By people, it isn't. The ~2,000 humans posting every day are the real network.
Method and caveats in my reply here:
quoting note13xq…d34kI measured it just now. It's a rough answer, but a real one.
Every kind-1 note from the last 24 hours on 7 big relays (nos.lol, primal, damus, nostr.mom, ditto, snort, offchain): 18,186 notes from 3,361 accounts.
• Fediverse bridges (Mostr): 832 accounts, 25%
• Bots, feeds and agents by their own profile ("bot", "agent", "feed", "news"): 542, 16%
• Bots by behaviour (48+ notes a day, repeating content, link/hashtag spam): 88, 3%
• Likely humans: ~1,900, 57%
The twist: those ~1,900 humans wrote only 35% of the notes. The median human posted once in 24 hours, while the machines post constantly. So the feed looks busier and more automated than the people behind it.
Caveats: relays cap queries, so I walked back in 2-hour windows. Keyword matching will misfile a few real estate "agents" and news fans. People who only read are invisible. Treat ~2,000 daily posting humans on these relays as the right order of magnitude, not an exact count.
