Flights at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., were temporarily halted earlier today following reports of an “active air defense incident” northeast of the nation’s capital. Two F-16C Fighting Falcons from the District of Columbia Air National Guard’s 121st Fighter Squadron were scrambled from Joint Base Andrews, along with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Blackjack Unit, to investigate a radar contact involving an “unidentified object” around 2:30 p.m. north of Washington.
Details regarding the incident and the nature of the object remain unclear. Reagan National Airport referred all requests for comment to the Pentagon.
