St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, a fisherman, heard John the Baptist proclaim Jesus as the Lamb of God. Abandoning his nets, Andrew followed Christ. He then brought Peter to meet Jesus. Andrew preached in Scythia, modern-day Romania, and along the Black Sea. Tradition holds he was crucified in Patras, Greece, on an X-shaped cross.
