This actually is a pretty critical result in models of computation: indirection is one of the most powerful operators you could add to any counter machine (which is what multiset rewriting's sequential cousin is)!
Once you add indirection, you become able to access arbitrary amounts of memory. Instead of encoding data within the counters like stacks of bits, you instead just reach for another counter that you assume exists. Indirection does require you to have an infinite number of counters, or at least as many as your number type can handle.
If you try to reach for a counter that doesn't exist, you can just fail the rule match. Benefits of guarded computation. :)

For what it's worth, the SNES was only able to manage about 24 polygons per frame via the CPU, so these routines are beating that! :)
It'd be hilarious to see an equivalent of the Super FX chip in Uxn, either as an external device or as a series of routines.

I've had a few rounds at doing my "2025 wrapped". I think I'll delay publishing it.. but this year deserves documenting. Actually, now that I think of it, everything from 2023-2025 deserves documenting.
Over the last few years, I lost my soul and found it again, with the help of some of the best friends I could have ever hoped to meet. There are moments when I trace my steps, how I ended up here, and I'm in sheer awe.
Merveilles took me in with open arms when I thought I belonged absolutely nowhere. @npub1z8r…mrq6 showed me that I still had a fragment of life left in me and showed me that this maelstrom was worth surviving.
Since then, I have seen such sights. Sights I have never seen, warmth I cannot process, and love that is unconditional. I have not paid them proper tribute, and it's hard for me to adjust. I'm still a bit wobbly. Please use this message as an IOU: I cherish our friendship dearly, I'm just suffering from whiplash!
To everyone that's helped me this year, and encouraged me to keep going, thank you. I literally owe you my life, many times over. I will not let you down, and I will keep pushing forward. You have this girl's word.
To all my friends, I know many of you have gone through turmoil and are still going through it. Please know that I love each of you and want to see you succeed and punch back against the things that oppress you. This dimly lit bubble will not keep you as a prisoner. If I can help, I'll try. You are worth it.

I once knew a person that was obsessed with prestige culture (FAANG, etc.)
The conversation turned to cooking, and he took massive offense to anything anybody brought up. "Why are you.. doing that?"
The guy apparently cooked nothing but lean ground beef 24/7 and ate it, apart from takeout. Could not understand, at all, why people would cook anything more for themselves. This was cheap and the only thing he knew how to make.
In the same breath, he boasted about net worth, and how he essentially stripped himself bare (socially and personally) and pursued a FAANG job. Not because he needed the money, but because he was obsessed with prestige culture and the amount of money you could earn and hoard.
Every time I see comments like this I think of him. These people are not well, and they are being surrounded by a system of people pushing them further.

I feel like this is compounded by seeing other people work. It somehow demotivates me, even though I can celebrate their work. They found joy in it. Do I find joy in mine?
Life has punched me in the gut several times in the past three weeks. Some serious shit is about to hit our household, same as ever.. inspiration and joy in work is hard to find when you have this background "hum" of stress, tension and disorganization.
If your mind never fully relaxes, what does joy look like? What does inspiration look like? Is it coupled to the velocity of your life? Will you do things because the stress keeps you moving?
What happens in the quiet moments, when you have time? I have time right now. Some of it, anyway. Why am I not inspired? Why can't I recall what gives me joy, or makes me enthused to create? What is missing?
In moments like these, I feel as unskilled as I have ever been. I feel like my hands and head have lost their memory, because the frantic keyboard mashing was tied to a desire. Desire melds with dreams, and dreams are why we live.
I haven't slept well lately, in every sense.

I've been away for a few days after receiving some very heavy medical news. It's been hell. Fell off the bandwagon for December Adventure. Not much time to think.
Seems as if every time I get up, some punch knocks me back down. It's.. unnatural, how blessed and cursed I am.
I'm blessed by having the best friends and the leeway to work on what I feel is important, yet I'm cursed by misfortune impacting the people that I love and cherish.
I can't protect everyone. But I want to. But I can't.
I refuse to yield. But it is hard to get back up and pretend there's no bruise.
