He told the jerk that we expected the charge on our card to be reversed immediately and hung up. Not 5 minutes later we get a call from a PA number and it was a girl with a singsong voice claiming to be a supervisor with Singapore Airlines, and she was giving us the requested call back. She quickly dissembled under my husband's grilling and assured us the charge would be reversed. 7/ npub17g8a8l4xjnt2myhwhhm55mydgglme857rdf3x95th0jd4jafn22szsermt Gail Parenti With his dander well and truly up, my husband called the number of the scammer and told him what he had learned and asked him questions about his company, which was not Turkish Airlines. (I have to point out that my husband was a very good trial lawyer.) The jerk in the phone tried to explain that they handled overflow calls for the airline, but offered to put us in touch with Singapore Airlines to see if we could resolve the issue. Now this is where it gets bizarre. 6/ npub17g8a8l4xjnt2myhwhhm55mydgglme857rdf3x95th0jd4jafn22szsermt Gail Parenti I thought I was going to be sick. She gave us the real number for Turkish Airlines, and they were very accommodating and assured us that we would have no problem checking in the next day. Both (real) representatives repeatedly reassured us that no money was owed, and that we had been the victims of a scam. 5/ npub17g8a8l4xjnt2myhwhhm55mydgglme857rdf3x95th0jd4jafn22szsermt Gail Parenti He emailed us a receipt and email confirmation of our tickets on Turkish Airlines, and we went to lunch. But we kept going over how wrong it was, so my husband called Singapore Airlines, which had issued the confirmed ticket. The agent was super diligent, and asked that we forward the email to her. After what seemed like forever, she came back on and asked: "what number did you call?" Because,she pointed out, the email did not bear the logo of Turkish Airlines. That's when it hit me. 4/ npub17g8a8l4xjnt2myhwhhm55mydgglme857rdf3x95th0jd4jafn22szsermt Gail Parenti Something something about how Turkish Airlines wasn't obliged to honor Singapore Airlines promotional fare tickets because it was a busy time, given the holidays. We ended up giving in when he talked to his manager (I know, this sounds so cliche) and discounted the additional charge to $2400. We literally felt we had no choice, and we were desperate to save our vacation. In the entire 2 hours that my husband was on the phone with him, he never said that he wasn't with Turkish Airlines. Ever. 3/ npub17g8a8l4xjnt2myhwhhm55mydgglme857rdf3x95th0jd4jafn22szsermt Gail Parenti The person who answered explained to us that, despite holding confirmed tickets since February, we would not be able to confirm our business class seats which we had purchased with Singapore Air miles unless we agreed to upgrade to "Business Flex" at an additional cost of $3700. We were flabbergasted and argued repeatedly that it made no sense, but he was very insistent. Now for the tea on that scam that ruined our Sunday in Rome: When we tried to check-in online 24h before our flight but were unable to do so, my husband asked me to search for a number for Turkish Airlines Passenger Assistance in Rome, which promptly returned the result screenshotted below.
