i eventually figured out how to do it, but i'm not new to my devices. been using apple devices since 1986! i used to do systems administration. and i had to resort to a web search to figure out the most basic of things. it gest better...
i had already done the web search before posting, and it was apple's support pages that made me surrender, because they said, to airplay from ipad "open apple music, podcast, or other audio app" which implies that non-audio apps like safari can't do it

i am going to greece next week. i will be deleting social media, email, and messaging apps from my devices for the duration. i will be reviewing photos, files, and everything to make sure i have nothing obviously political or critical of what's happening. i will clear all browser history and caches. i will also be disabled facial recognition
never before have i been concerned about leaving or entering through US border patrol. but i am heavily tattooed and moderately pierced, all my clothes are black. i have a mildly freakish hippie goatee (i would shave it off but since i can't hide my facial tats or giant ear plugs, i don't think it will help)
honestly, i don't want to go, but it's a family trip that was planned long ago

long shot request for help
a couple weeks back i stumbled on a website. a guy makes custom and one-off audio pedals (some guitar, some for other purposes) and sells them. he had at least a couple dozen different devices for sale, maybe more. they all look home-made
i recall that only a handful of the devices were guitar pedals, but a search for those brough me to his page
one of his devices was a hand-held thing that picks up electrical and/or magnetic waves. the idea is to walk around city streets and pick all kinds of weird sounds from around you
i thought i bookmarked the site, but did not. can't find it in my history
maybe using the initials LS?
finally, of copurse,if you know of anyone else making and selling things like this i'd love to know about them

this makes me crazy. i build websites (mostly wordpress) and i have never found a single reliable all-purpose browser
since i'm an apple guy, Safari aint bad
FF was my primary but not no more. LibreWolf and WaterFox break on too many sites for me
Vivaldi is my favorite chrome browser. not perfect but pretty good
but truly, the situation is bizarre. for writing, notes, tasks, music, and many other purposes, there are a multitude of apps to choose from. but web browsers/browsing mostly sucks

ever tried copying text from a #PDF file? what a shit show. the resulting text is usually so garbled, it takes more time to edit than to type it yourself
thankfully, there is a new solution: take a screen shot of the pdf, then simply copy the text from the picture. OCR has improved to the point that PDFs are now obsolete

i’ve always said i understand the subscription model for software, so i subscribe to many apps
in moving away from mainstream/legacy media, i’m subscribing to many independent smaller sites (404 media for example), and a few individual journalist's newsletters
but now i'm drowning in monthly and annual subscription fees. it’s becoming difficult to keep track and impossible to afford
this is not sustainable and i can't imagine a solution
