My heart just aches for her. She’s had such a traumatic year. I feel powerless, there’s nothing I can do for her other than to be her friend.
I indulge in fantasies of formally adopting her and bringing her here, but she has a family she loves there, and therapy patients who she cares for there. She has made her choice to stay and be a brave psychoanalyst in a place of peril. Her ethical stance and her bravery blow me away with admiration.

I always find it really good to remember that the US has not actually won a significant war since WWII. Korea, VIetnam, Iraq, Afghanistan… eventually, they had to withdraw in every case. And, also worth remembering, for the most part, they abandoned the people who helped them.
They may ‘invade’ Greenland successfully. It has a tiny population. But if they think, for a moment, they’ll be able to stay there comfortably, they have never met a Greenlander.
They will, eventually, go home.

Actually, the interesting thing is that in forcing me to find a different choice, I found this lovely lady who - because she’s two streets away from me - will do home visits for free. Which is amazing because Dora gets scent disoriented after a visit to the vet. She gets home and hisses at Jacques like she doesn’t know her for about 6 hours. Which was disconcerting for poor Jacques, who wandered around looking forlorn for a day.

This is why I think fiction is so fundamentally important. The more children read, the more open they are to alternative ways of understanding the world around them. The better equipped they are, the freer they feel to create new and alternative narratives for how to live a good life and what a good life is.

Democracy:

This is a far, far better approach. It’s more reliable and more cost effective. But I’m looking at, for instance the US, where communitarian practices have all but disappeared in some places. It’s a bit of a departure from what I usually make as it has inset sleeves, and darts - shallow, but nonetheless.
The hurdles for me are the usual: I still haven’t taken the plunge and purchased a serger, so french seams and bias binding, I think.

I’ve been a little quiet because I’ve been working on something kind of new. I got this ‘temple style’ top years ago, and thought I’d better get a pattern out of it before I forget. I like it but it’s in really heavy cotton, so not very light. I thought I’d like the same thing but floatier but in back, so if I wore a tank top beneath it it would subtly show through. #Sewing
