everyone screams microkernel when a new LPE appears but why are we not trying to fix the horrid linux permission system that even allows this to branch out into full root access?
Both dirtyfrag and copy.fail relied on a setuid binary to gain root access. Why is setuid still a thing?? The idea of letting a binary set itself to run as whatever user it wants is so backwards it should've been killed years ago but instead we let this happen every time
yes, a microkernel is the way to go for the future, but that will take a time, a very very long time, lets work on solutions to get rid of insane pitfalls like setuid first

The gardenhouse live ISO system is now public!!
It features an ISO loader profile, as well as two default profiles that provide a day-to-day and a minimal desktop. The ISO loader profile allows users to provide any custom florist profile and convert it into a live ISO with home persistence and ramdisk out of the box, no extra changes needed!!

The gardenhouse live iso thingy is basically already complete but I got nerdsniped into trying to make the image as small as possible so its gonna take a while :ipv5:
edit: for context, with the default gardenhouse erofs options its 4gb, i got it down to 3.2gb with custom options, rn i'm trying some extra stuff
the issue is that the more compression options I give the longer it takes to produce the image

Essentially yes, you can 'hardcode' a build system but afaik the general goal is to be able to replace the buildsystem configured with something else and still have it work

this new age consumerism is fucking pathetic
"400€ phone with support for 5 years is cheaper than 200€ phone with 2 years support" fucking laughable
my grandma still uses an s5 because she only calls her family
suggesting to get a new phone, even if she understood the concept of updates, would get you strange looks because the phone still works and she can still stay in contact with her children
learn how to lay things out for sustainability, not some made up security talk you lock yourself in

this time its.. firefox based. waow
but! mozilla removed embedding support from gecko

...it launches a bastardized version of firefox with only UI tweaks to make it seem like a proper standalone application
so instead of having a minimized version of chromium you now get the entirety of firefox :osaka_wha:

i could just use the lxc container thing but i cant launch any gui session from there :(
stuff like newcompositor doesnt work for some reason and the builtin wayland compositor doesnt implement all necessary components

the images don't show where I put the SSD, to make sure I can easily access it in case I ever upgrade or need to temporarily unplug it, I put it right next to the breadboard, for some reason it has an m.2 slot there (the other two are on the bottom side of the motherboard), so it's perfect for easy access
