Queensland Trans Identified Male, "Jennifer" Buckley, right, is suing former breastfeeding counsellor Jasmine Sussex for vilification over a series of social media comments in which Ms Sussex denies biological males can breastfeed.
A Trans Identified Male who stimulated lactation and fed his baby the liquid produced has been ordered by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal to provide details of the hormones involved and the composition of the substance.
The overturning on appeal of a previous QCAT ruling represents a win for former Australian Breastfeeding Association counsellor Jasmine Sussex, who is being sued for vilification by "Jennifer" Adrian Buckley over statements referring to Mr. Buckley as a “man pretending to be a woman”, “a child abuser” and someone who adopted a “delusional queer theory take” on breastfeeding.
The decision, handed down late last week by senior QCAT members Ned Aughterson and Samantha Traves, set aside a January ruling by fellow QCAT member Peter Bridgman, finding he had made errors in law constituting a “substantial miscarriage of justice”.
Professor Aughterson and Ms Traves found Mr Bridgman had erred in deeming that the process involved in stimulating lactation in biologically male Mr. Buckley, and the nature of the substance fed to the baby, were not relevant to the case.
Mr. Buckley has been given a deadline of September 16 to provide particulars of “the ‘induction’ of lactation including whether the induction involved hormonal stimulation and, if so, what hormones, the source thereof and the process and extent by which the levels were decreased or increased; the composition of the substance which was lactated; and the precise source of secretion of the lactated material”.
He has publicly detailed his story of having used hormones to induce lactation under the supervision of endocrinologist Naomi Achong in 2019, in order to feed the baby, of whom he is the biological father, for less than a week soon after the child’s birth.
Mr. Buckley’s vilification case against Ms Sussex over online comments made by the former breastfeeding counsellor between 2021 and 2023 has been working its way through QCAT since the Trans Identified Male complained to the Queensland Human Rights Commission in late 2023.
In seeking to defend herself, Ms Sussex – represented by the high-profile freedom of speech advocate Tony Morris KC, who is being briefed by the Christian-aligned Human Rights Law Alliance – sought details relating to Mr. Buckley’s claim that he had “induced lactation under the supervision and with the knowledge of medical professionals”. The particulars sought by Ms Sussex relate to the nature and provider of the “medical supervision”, how lactation was induced, how it constituted “lactation”, and how it was determined the fluid was “breast milk”.
In his now-overturned January decision, Mr Bridgman found those matters had “no bearing” on whether Ms Sussex had “incited hatred” of Mr. Buckley “or a class of persons”, namely "transgender women", and were therefore not relevant to the case.
In their decision to allow Ms Sussex’s appeal, Professor Aughterson and Ms Traves found “a reasonably arguable case of error” in Mr Bridgman’s ruling, and that “it would cause a substantial injustice to (Ms Sussex) were the matter to proceed absent the particulars requested given their relevance to the outcome of the complaint”.
The appeal judges found Mr Bridgman had given “no consideration” to the issue of whether the information sought was relevant to whether Ms Sussex’s comments were made “reasonably and in good faith … for public interest purposes”, as is permitted under the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act."

I'm a triplet, both of my sisters are cis women and I'm trans. I hang around their friends sometimes and no matter how nice they are, the moment I'm gone they actually have their "real" conversations, not about trans people but just conversations they wouldnt have with me. When I'm there it's pretty performative. The way women are towards them is a completely different world to how they are to me. They're not even outrightly bigots, they just don't see us as women, it doesn't even cross their mind. It's more like they're nice for their own safety in fear that we will hurt them. My sister told me she loves and respects me but if she were to put a number on it like about 90% of women don't see trans women as women unless they have gender 'issues' of their own.
I was born and raised with my sisters so we had the same upbringing but I was just not one of them at the time, I was male socialized according to them because their childhood was different to mine just down to how strangers would treat us. My sisters even say the more a trans woman passes the more offensive the whole thing is, like they think we're trying to skinwalk them or something instead of thinking we actually just ARE them.
Just recently I was talking to a cis woman and she was subtly readjusting something in her purse as we were talking, she was smiling and being normal but I did see it was pepper spray she was fiddling with, like she was almost preparing for something to happen. She didn't use it though and she was extremely nice but at the back of my mind I could read that she was scared of just me.
Have any of you had different experiences? I'm literally the only amab in my house and wider community and we're extremely progressive.. so I've seen it all"

Ms Folan, who was previously revealed to have been behind an X account that downplayed the horrors inflicted by Iran's extremist regime, was set to contribute to the party's culture and wellbeing, as well as policy and strategy.
The Greens are facing legal action after gender critical members argued the result appears to be incompatible with the Supreme Court's ruling on gender last year that the term 'woman' within the meaning of the Equality Act 2010 refers only to biological women.
The ruling also stated this does not mean transgender people are not protected from discrimination, but that this is enshrined in a different part of the law.
A spokesperson for the Greens has since confirmed to the Daily Mail that Ms Folan has been suspended from the party, but added that the party doesn't comment on disciplinary matters.
Gender critical members are said to be 'deeply concerned' over the appointment, and say this is not an 'isolated' case.
The Greens, led by Zack Polanski, are understood to already be facing separate legal action over its policies on sex and gender, with The Good Law Project pledging to defend them.

The leadership cannot simply ignore the law because it disagrees with it, and it cannot claim women's rights are being protected while allowing a women's position to be filled in this way.
'The party has been repeatedly warned about these issues. This is an especially blatant example of why women in the Green Party have lost confidence in its willingness to protect their rights.'
Lesbian Greens, another gender critical group, said her appointment 'symbolises the change' in the Green Party and highlighted the support from Greens For Palestine.
Ms Folan was last month revealed to be behind 'Stats for Lefties', an X account with almost 100,000 followers.
In posts she made the extraordinary claim that Labour had 'killed and maimed far more people in the past 20 years than the Iranian regime could ever possibly dream of doing in a century'.
The Iranian regime is one of the fiercest in the world, and is known for its restrictions on women and minorities, including the LGBT+ community.
Homosexuality is still illegal in Iran and intercourse between men carries the death penalty.
Iran is also known to have killed large numbers of its own citizens, including thousands – some estimates say more than 30,000 – this year alone following a brutal crackdown on protests against its regime.
Mr. Folan wrote that he urged the left to 'stand firmly against the British state's colonial project to topple the Iranian government' after Britain imposed sanctions for these same killings.
He has also called for Israel to be 'abolished'.
Posting on X following her election to the council role, Ms Folan wrote: 'I know there will be Zionists reading this who are utterly furious that I won. I welcome their hatred.'
She added: 'Our party has changed, and my election as a proud anti-Zionist trans woman symbolises that change.'"

You know that often used guilt trap that trans will "try to end it all"?
Large scale study shows that in fact, post affirmative surgery attempts are 12 times higher than other patients.
Results
Individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12.12-fold higher suicide attempt risk than those who did not (3.47% vs. 0.29%, RR 95% CI 9.20-15.96, p < 0.0001). Compared to the tubal ligation/vasectomy controls, the risk was 5.03-fold higher before propensity matching and remained significant at 4.71-fold after matching (3.50% vs. 0.74%, RR 95% CI 2.46-9.024, p < 0.0001) for the gender affirmation patients with similar results with the pharyngitis controls.
Conclusion
Patients who have undergone gender-affirming surgery are associated with a significantly elevated risk of suicide, highlighting the necessity for comprehensive post-procedure psychiatric support.

The suspect, Ousman Ceesay (44), confronted and fatally shot two gay men in the bar's parking lot: Vincent Anthony Siqueiros (42) and Cameron Davis Capara (33), both pronounced dead at the scene. Ceesay then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a hospital. Ceesay was born in The Gambia (where ~95% of the population is Muslim) and was described as a practicing Muslim. Ceesay was carrying a note listing several LGBTQ+-associated businesses, and a search of his home revealed additional targeted locations.
He was a registered Democrat.

Was there a gay hate crime in Tucson Arizona?
"On the early morning of August 31, 2026, a shooting outside Venture-N, a gay bar at 1239 N. 6th Ave. in Tucson, was confirmed by police as an anti-gay hate crime.

They have to talk to each other. And they have to talk about something besides a man. They leave without buying a ticket because almost no movies qualify.
It was funny because it was true.
Four decades later, Hollywood still often struggles to clear a bar that low.
The irony is that the “Bechdel Test” was never meant to be a serious grading system for art. Bechdel herself has pointed out that plenty of great movies fail it, while plenty of terrible movies pass. The joke simply exposed how often women, especially queer women, disappeared from stories altogether. Once you notice it, you cannot stop noticing it.
Bechdel started Dykes to Watch Out For in 1983, at a time when openly lesbian characters were mostly invisible in newspapers. The strip followed a circle of friends as they navigated relationships, politics, jobs, activism, and everyday life. There were breakups, elections, bookstore gossip, debates over feminism, and endless coffee conversations. It was funny, messy, and deeply human.
Most importantly, queer people were never treated as side characters in someone else’s story. They were the story.
The comic ran for more than 25 years and documented enormous changes in LGBTQ life. Readers watched characters confront the AIDS crisis, fight over marriage equality, argue about race and class, come out, grow older, have children, and wrestle with the same contradictions the rest of us do. Reading the archives today feels like flipping through an illustrated history of modern queer America.
In 2006, Bechdel published "Fun Home," a graphic memoir about growing up in rural Pennsylvania with a closeted father whose death forced her to reconsider her family’s entire history. It was funny in places, devastating in others, and unlike anything many readers had encountered. A comic book had become serious literature without sacrificing the visual storytelling that made comics unique.
"Fun Home" spent two weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers list, became a staple of college classrooms, and eventually won five Tony Awards after being adapted into a Broadway musical.
Not bad for a medium many people once dismissed as funny pages.
Alison Bechdel did not just create memorable characters. She changed the language we use to talk about representation. She proved comics could carry the emotional weight of the best novels. And she reminded generations of queer readers that our ordinary lives, our friendships, our family drama, and our inside jokes were always worth putting on the page. "

When the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, they progressively closed schools for girls. By March 2022, they banned all girls above sixth grade from attending secondary school — a ban that remains in effect today. According to UNESCO, 2.4 million Afghan girls are now locked out of secondary school, making Afghanistan the only country in the world to formally prohibit girls from receiving an education beyond the primary level. The Taliban have also expanded restrictions to universities and closed rural community-based education centers. Girls have responded by attending secret schools at home, risking arrest, while others deliberately fail sixth grade to stay in their classrooms as long as possible.

What was happening in 2002, when this series was screened?
It was right on the cusp between the wider public ‘understanding’ of transsexualism, and the modern-day horror story of gender ideology.
Things were shifting in law: that same year, a landmark ruling in the European Court of Human Rights (EHRC) allowed a same-sex couple to marry. Christine Goodwin, a man who identified as a woman, was given the legal green light to marry another man – eleven years before other same-sex couples were able to do so.
Around this time, trans activists began demanding that the medical/psychiatric model be rejected. They didn’t want gender to be seen as a medical problem in any way. The legal framework was still quite medicalised as the Act came into place, and it wasn’t until 2019 that the World Health Organisation removed ‘gender incongruence’ from its chapter in ICD-11 (the global standard for recording health information) on mental and behavioural disorders, placing it instead into a chapter concerning sexual health.
Stephen Whittle and Christine Burns were the key spokespeople for Press for Change, an old-school transsexual rights campaign founded in 1992. It was an effective and influential organisation, credited with the 2002 and 2004 changes to legislation.
Although the GRA is the source of multiple problems, Whittle and Burns, at the time at least, favoured “education and engagement rather than confrontation or demand making”. This approach could not be more different from the movement today.
Whittle (and her phalloplasty) was the key character in Make me a Man. The documentary certainly helped normalise the notion of women transitioning to live as men, and certainly brought some glamour to it. Millions watched these ‘trans men’ being happy and accepted at work, and enjoying family and romantic life.
What happened between 2002 and 2015 is a whole other story, and one I shall be focussing on in a couple of weeks.
My first taste of this crazed ideology was the very beginning of the 1980s when, as a new and young feminist, I joined a group, Women against Violence against Women, which campaigned against male violence. In one meeting, a woman was discussing how her friend had left an abusive husband, and then fallen in love with another woman. When he discovered this, he began to claim he was a woman, and a lesbian, and kept turning up at venues he knew they would be at.
We were all very clear, that the diagnosis of transsexuality was both bonkers and dangerous for women.
We could never have imagined then that decades later, we would see the invention of the “transgender child”.
There was never any doubt that these men were sexually aroused by cross dressing, because we saw this type of pornography during our campaigning. We didn’t have the word autogynephilia then, but it was obvious that this was a sexual kink.
And one interesting thing to point out: in those days, many of the out lesbians (mainly working class women who were not involved in feminism at all) were hard-core butch, often being mistaken as men (at first glance). But they would never identify as men, and would be extremely offended if someone suggested they might. There were numerous reasons why the outward appearances of these women matched the masculine stereotype, but I never heard one, and I knew many, who either thought they were men, or who wanted to be.
Feminists fighting male violence against women and girls (not the liberal, fun kind), have always been aware of and fought against sex stereotypes that form the basis of women’s perceived inferiority to men. Therefore, we saw such stereotypes as harmful. We understood that gender roles, or what we referred to as ‘rules’ are about the way that girls and women were required to act, should be eradicated. We didn’t ever think any of it was ‘natural’ or ‘innate’.
In 2002, when Make me a Man was broadcast, I was still working in academic research. I was writing opinion pieces relating to my feminist campaigning work, but I wasn’t yet a journalist."

The "Fifty Shades of Grey defence" (or "rough sex defence")
In legal contexts, and more broadly a "culturally approved script" identified by criminologist Professor Elizabeth Yardley in 2020 research from Birmingham City University. Her finding: the normalisation of BDSM through Fifty Shades of Grey and pornography "have created a culturally approved script for perpetrators of violence against women."
Key facts:
UK campaign "We Can't Consent To This" has documented at least 60 cases of women killed by men who claimed the death was an accident during "rough sex" or a "sex game gone wrong."
The Guardian reported that such cases have risen by 90% over the decade since the trilogy's 2011 publication.
Serial rapist Reynhard Sinaga dismissed his crimes as "Fifty Shades of Grey-type stuff."
A peer-reviewed review in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence (2020) concluded there is no evidence that strangulation heightens women's sexual libido, but clear evidence that men use it as a method of assault, that it is a porn trope, and that women die in the course of it.
MP Harriet Harman summed it up: "What an irony it is that the narrative of women's sexual empowerment is being used by men who inflict fatal injuries."
The UK's Domestic Abuse Bill (2021) was partly motivated by the need to close this legal loophole, and campaigners continue to push for the "rough sex defence" to be explicitly banned.
The broader mechanism, as described by feminist researchers and domestic abuse charities, is that porn and mainstream media eroticise male violence against women, which then functions as a plausible deniability framework for perpetrators — shifting the narrative from "I assaulted you" to "you wanted it."
