IF this was a clumsy dev, it’s because they used machine code
Hard to believe with docs supposed history, but possible
Sometimes an LLM WILL introduce errors to “fix” the code and it puts out pseudo code… I just
I don’t get it because doc was 100% a better engineer than I am and I even knew to put the rules on my LLM
I do know that in 2021 LLMs were so very constrained
There’s just a lot that does not add up
You don’t do dual libs and if you do you don’t make it fail open, it’s fails closed and throws warnings
To me this was very very libertarian design… take off all the warning labels and hope people know how the fuck to swim and also disable a bomb

The entropy bug in the cc wallets was, quite literally, trivial to find
There was a 0 (where there should not have been) that fixed compilation errors… this would have been obvious to ANY low level hardware dev that reviewed this
It was literally defined to NOT call THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF SOURCE CODE AND IT WAS NOT EVEN CONFUSING TO READ
No one needed a super high powered Chinese LLM pointed at it

A PRNG failure IS a check mate scenario for an external auditor
There would have been ZERO options to ethically disclose a vulnerability at this scale
The most that you can do is hope and pray that no one else ever discovers how searchable the key space is
what CoinKite did in their codebase is extremely layered to explain… and IMPOSSIBLE to test unless you broke licensing rules… but to put it simply they collapsed the key space from the size of the entire known universe down to the size of a toy box
First attackers will grind out the big toys but eventually they will find the marbles
Coldcard is a broken tool and its entities are effectively bankrupt
As a lifetime bitcoin self custody advocate, I wish there was more that could have been done
There was not
I have some thoughts about the maintainers of this repo… someone knew this code didn’t compile… whoever you are, wherever you are, you have been one of the biggest disgraces to Bitcoin in the history of Bitcoin
When your code does not compile, it is software failure telling you something is wrong
The fact that you changed a value to 0 to get the code to fucking compile was either an inside hit job or the most braindead negligence in hardware engineering…
