That is THE whistle to have. My sea kayaking group uses them as well; you can even blow them under water; the sound will carry for miles. And PLUG YOUR EARS before blowing!

Focusing on an individual case like this essentially isolates it. Hundreds of thousands of people weren't at risk; Grandma was. There's an agenda at work here.
The media outlet in question is going to be more closely aligned to the power providers in Texas than they are to the victims.
ABC, NBC, et. al. let Fox take the heat for being right wing, while in reality they're all the same. It's just a question of subtlety.

Absolutely...and the people I'm talking about would never join those communities, because being asked to dempnstyrate a skill would uncover their dark secret. I've seen it mostly in men over 70. That generation demanded that all males be mechanically gifted-failing to be such was emasculating. When I say "can I give you a hand with that?" they are hearing "you're not much of a Real Man, are you?"
We do terrible things to ourselves, don't we?

Agreed, it's also not necessary to expect people to have skills that aren't relevant to the needs of their generation. People in my age group generally don't have smithing skills. My kids don't need to know how to adjust carburetors.
We have 3 types of people at ham radio build sessions-those who don't know but want to learn, those who want me to do it all for them, and those who would rather die than admit they don't know how. Those types make it hard work.

I've supervised a fair number of ham club build projects in the last few years. I would have expected hams to have an above-average hands-on ability, but this is far from the case. I've watched good hams fail to use things like measuring tapes properly. Almost none can solder.
It's strange to me, because I've always been driven to see how things work. It's been an obsessions as long as I can remember. I lack the ability to see how people can be so disinterested.

There comes a point where even if you are able to sweat it provides no meaningful cooling, which was the issue here. I was much younger when I lived in the desert; I'm not sure I'd survive many of the situations I used to encounter today. Add the fact that most motorcycles produce massive amounts of heat on top of whatever the weather is doing. It's just a situation a rider should not let themselves get into.

I've had some truly miserable summer rides in the desert, including one where I quit sweating and shortly after stopped feeling hot. And yes, opening your leathers is just exposing yourself to the furnace; no relief at all.
