'बहीण' ह्या शब्दामागे भाऊ हा शब्द उच्चारला नाही तरी तो अनुसूचित असतो. तसेच महिलेची ओळख नातेसंबंधाच्या अनुषंगाने केल्यामुळे कुटुंबाची प्राथमिकता अधोरेखित होते. महिलांची ओळख कुटुंब आणि नातेसंबंधापलिकडे असू शकत नाही का? तसेच 'लाडकी' हा शब्द वापरुन सरकार महिलांकडे patronizing दृष्टीकोनातून बघतं हेही स्पष्ट होतं.

Also, this was my first movie after reading Roland Barthes and Stuart Hall's semiotic theory and analyses, which was an interesting experience. And in the same vein, do tell me if you decoded the movie differently than I did.

I liked Kalki. Except for a few formulaic comedy and romantic scenes meant for the Telugu audience and questionable handling of female characters, it's a neat retelling of Mahabharata. And despite dipping into Brahmanic mythology, the director doesn't endorse caste system (unlike Bahubali) or glorify a Brahmanic identity (unlike RRR).
