Cryptography isn't Bitcoin's primary driver; it's proof of work. The cryptography and data structures used are fully arbitrary and could have looked completely different. But the use of physical energy to power global consensus on the state of Bitcoin ownership could not have been any different.
So really "cryptocurrencies" should have been called energy currencies. And proof of stake/fiat 2.0 would never have affinity scammed Bitcoin.

It's very rare to meet anyone that can perform the thought experiment of "what if Bitcoin was useful as money, but the system itself fundamentally solves for a more general problem. So let's try to describe the general problem and then how Bitcoin solves it."
But the money narrative is 16 years strong and hard to break out, especially when you have PTSD from fighting shitcoiners and big blockers, or too much confidence in pure software, or too much of an aversion to violence. All of which are prevalent among bitcoiners.

To me, spam is writing posts arguing about spam, such posts being relatively costless to write.
But because transactions with large payloads do actually pay the higher fees and actually make it into valid blocks, they are quite costly and therefore not spam.

This whole op return and arbitrary data on the blockchain thing is trivial when viewed through the lens of softwar.
You cannot logically constrain transactions that people can physically put on the blockchain. All you need to do is be unsympathetic to abstract power and it disappears.
So when OCEAN pool goes ahead and filters out transactions, that's actually a physically consequential tactic to defending their narrative. As is the more fundamental issue that spammers only have so many sats to pay fees before they have to get a real job or hope their on chain marketing stunts brought in enough VC funding to stay in business.

People do get betrayed by people they trust. And it'll happen on Nostr too no doubt. The WoT tools will need some manual overrides to accommodate those situations. Or genius methods for detecting trust dropoffs preemptively.
